Advertising: this all encompassing, ubiquitous industry with a global cap topping a trillion dollars is responsible for hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of jobs. Some people imagine millionaire playboys, a la Don Draper, some imagine sarcastic fast food Twitter accounts; and frankly we can't tell which is worse. But, does does advertising really even work? What makes a good ad? More importantly, Turn That Off! asks, what makes a bad ad? In this episode, we display examples of the most horrific, tone deaf, sometimes insidious and even racist advertisements and ask the question: how the hell did this ad get made?
Turn That Off! is a podcast that examines the spectacle of popular culture, exploring the bizarre relationship between humans and the (often terrible) media we consume. Please note that we regularly explore unsavory corners of the internet, and don’t condone everything we discuss.
